The Sieraków Landscape Park

The Sieraków Landscape Park is situated in western Wielkopolska, in the north-western part of the Poznań voivodeship. It comprises the central and eastern part of a very interesting tourist region - the Międzychód-Sieraków lake district. Created in 1991, the Park covers an area of 30,143 ha (with 9,898 ha of woodland, i.e. 33% of the whole area, and 2,254 ha of water bodies, i.e. 7.5% of the area). The object of protection is a postglacial landscape with a relief diversified by morainic hills, dunes, river valleys and finger lakes. The Park's great attraction are 25 postglacial lakes besides small bodies of water less than 1 ha in area and lish ponds.

The Warta river flowing in the northern part of the Park divides it into two very different regions: the northern part is the dune terrain of the Noteć Forest, almost completely covered with monoculture pine woodland, and the southern part is hummocky morainic terrain with lakes in deep former subglacial tunnel valleys, partly covered with broadleaved forests (among others beautiful beech and mixed forests). The Miedzychód- Sieraków lake district is relatively sparsely populated (about 50 persons per km2) and little urbanized, which explains why so many places hardly spoilt by man's activity have been pre- served. The areas with the most interesting wildlife have been converted into natural reserves. There are four of them (Heron Islands, Cegliniec, Moss Communuties on Mnich Lake and Lutom Lake Beeches) as well as three nature - landscape complexes (near Ławica and Śrem Lakes, in the neighbourhood of Ostrowo Lake near Orzeszkowo, as well as Białokosz Lake and the Białokosz Stream valley). Nearby, to the west of the Sieraków Landescape Park, lies the Pszczew Landescape Park embracing the western part of the Międzychód-Sieraków lake district.

In the recent years some steps have been taken to ensure the region rational tourist development. The existing routes have been renewed and some new ones mapped out. Two vantage points have been created: near Grobia at the Kwilcz-Sieraków road and Łężęczki at the road to Pniewy, and a few woodland car parks and bivouac sites have been provided with tourist facilites.

The Sieraków Landscape Park is attractive for tourists not only because of its natural qualities. There are also a few valuable monuments of architecture, e.g. at Chrzypsko Wielkie, Kwilcz and Sieraków.

The recreational values of the Park have been made available by creating holiday camps at Lakes Jaroszewskie (OSIR and TKKF camp) and Lutom (a PKP camp). Holiday camps of various institution have also been set up at Chrzypsko Lake in Chrzypsko Wielkie and Łężeczki. Estates of private summer bungalows have been built at Chrzypsko Małe, Bucharzewo and Prusin.
